McGILL, NEVADA: Arleen C. Allred, 71, died July 6, 2007. She was born December 20, 1935 in Fountain Green, UT to Wilford and Ellen Crorother Coombs. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse, and had been a White Pine County resident since 1956. She enjoyed reading and crafts. Survivors include two sons, Royal Allred and Monte Allred, both of Salt Lake City, UT; a sister, Bessie Nessen of Salt Lake City, UT; a brother, Ken Coombs of Santaquinn, UT; 2 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her friend and companion, Dillford Johnson of Ely.
Services were held at the LDS Church in McGill. Interment was at the Ely City Cemetery.
SUN VALLEY, NEVADA: Carlos Armendariz, 86, died June 3, 2006. He was born November 4, 1919. He is survived by four sons, Epifaneo Armendariz of Mexico, and Carlos Armendariz, Jr., Arturo Armendariz, and Javier Armendariz, all of Reno; three daughters, Raquel Puntes, Ofelia Macias and Maria Corral, all of Reno; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. SPARKS, NEVADA: Eloise Guyton Barnes, 79, died April 15, 2002 at a hospital in Reno. She was born November 30, 1922 in Queen City, TX. She was a Baptist. She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. CARSON CITY, NEVADA: Bertha Bleecker, 91, died May 9, 2008 at her residence. She was born April 17, 1917 in Shamrock, OK to Nathaniel and Bertha Bentley. She was a former resident of Torrance, CA, and came to Carson City in 1978. She attended Hilltop Community Church, and enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and animals. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Gambill of Carson City, and Barbara McKinney of Concord, CA; a sister, Bonnie McClintock of Westchester, CA; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchildren. MINDEN, NEVADA: Virginia Lee Broersma, 70, died August
2, 2006. She was born April 25, 1936 to John and Myrtle Stephens. She retired from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. She was a member of the Red Hat Hotties of Minden and the Ladies Sewing/Coffee Club. She is survived by her husband, William Broersma; two daughters, LeeAnn Rasner and Dana Westre; a son, Brian Walkama; four stepsons, Jim, Bill, Mike and Eric Broersma; a stepdaughter, Missy Page; two nephews; 23 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. INCLINE VILLAGE, NEVADA: Gerald Raymond Brown died May 2, 2009. He was born March 13, 1948. He was a third generation Nevadan. He was a CPA in Reno for over 35 years, and also had several other business interests. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the Nevada desert. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Incline Village, and was currently serving as its treasurer. He is survived by his wife, Janet Usinger Brown; three children, Julie, Jenny and Daniel Brown of Reno; and two sisters, Lorna Hornbuckle (Richard) of Reno, and Susan Austin of Chicago. A memorial service was held at American Legion Hall Post #30 in Sparks.

PAHRUMP, NEVADA: Dr. James Yandes Clarke, Jr., died January 14, 1996 in Las Vegas. He was born May 24, 1917 in St. Paul, MN. He was a retired pathologist and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a fellow of the American College of Pathologists and a member of the VFW. He had lived in southern Nevada for 35 years, and in Pahrump for 13 years. RENO, NEVADA: Eva Gardner Colburn, 83, died July 11, 2001 at Carson Tahoe Hospital. She was born March 20, 1918 in Lund, NV to William E. Hutchings and Emma Whitehead Hutchings. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Old Orchard.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Relief Society. She enjoyed crafts, quilting and holiday cooking. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sandy Gardner of Minden, and Ronald and Lorna Gardner of Carson Valley; a sister, Irene Conn of Winnemucca; four brothers, Roy Hutchings of Ely, Wendell Hutchings of Logandale, Warren Hutchings of Las Vegas, and Cecil Hutchings of Mapleton, UT; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Reuel Gardner and Roy Colburn; and two daughters. Services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Golconda Drive. MINDEN, NEVADA: Edward Zaven Lilian died November 20, 2003. He was born December 11, 1920 to Vartan Toros Lilian and Alice Polorian Shamirian. His parents immigrated from Armenia. He was an aerospace engineer, and coordinated and instructed the military in air defense missiles. He was a designer of the Apollo spacecraft ground support equipment, and had worked in Saudi Arabia, Greenland, China, and Japan. He was a PBY flight engineer during World War II in the South Pacific, and served as chief engineer of a fighter squadron. He served on the U.S.S. Princeton in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Betsy Lilian; a son, Richard; a sister, Gladys; and his nieces and nephews. Services were held at St. Gall Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and served as a naval weather forecaster. He attended Washington State College, and held a business degree from the University of Washington. He worked in the aerospace industry, and later opened his own tax service. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Colleen Caley Newblom; two sons, Tod (Nancy), and Cory (Jennifer); a daughter, Kim (Jeff); and 8 grandchildren. SCHURZ, NEVADA: Llewellyn Jack Nez died November 2, 1974. He was born July 7, 1945 in Schurz. He was a cowboy and a rancher. SPARKS, NEVADA: Earl Calvin Onkka, 72, died February 6, 2001 in Sparks. He was born July 21, 1928 in Detroit, MI to David Carl and Syma A. Onkka. He was a former resident of Palmer, AK, Sheridan, WY, and California. He was a truck driver with 51 years of service, and had worked for Interstate Distributing Co. in Sparks. He was an electronics engineer, and enjoyed reading, photography, remote control airplanes, baseball, painting, movies and music. She was a longtime White Pine County resident, and formerly lived in Mount Pleasant, UT. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed gardening, photography, classical music, cooking, and the outdoors. Survivors include her husband, Warren G. Poulsen; three sons, Michael (Melinda) Poulsen of Ely, James (Bonnie) Poulsen of Alamo, and Warren (Sharolyn) Poulsen of Stephenville, TX; three daughters, Diane (Chuck) Vaughan of Ely, Jerry Ann (Toni) Downard of Republic, WA, and Jennifer (Brent) Bowler of Newman Lake, WA; a sister, Mildred Nielson of Ephriam, UT; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Judith Downard and Mabel Hutchinson; and four brothers, Delbert Pedersen, Edwin Pedersen, Clarence Pedersen, and Od Johasen. SCHURZ, NEVADA: Funeral services were held for Jennie Quintero on August 22, 1965. She was a member of the Walker River Paiute tribe, and served as a Tribal Council member. She was survived by her husband, Patricio Quintero; two daughters, Patricia Brown and Beatrice Guzman; four sons, Douglas D. She accompanied her late husband during his tours to Okinawa, Japan and Korea. RENO, NEVADA: Gerald "Jerry" Ryan, 84, died July 21, 2009. He was born July 10, 1925 to James Mathew and Martha Evelyn Ryan. He became deaf in childhood after surviving diphtheria. He spoke sign language from the age of six, and attended the School for the Deaf in Ogden, UT. During World War II, he was a clerk at the Naval Base in Hawthorne. He was an organizer and past president of the Mt. Rose Club of the Deaf, and taught sign language. He enjoyed deaf theatre, and debuted in "Love In My Hands" at the Reno Little Theatre. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Betty Jean Ryan; two sons, Jerry Lee and David Mathew; a daughter, Jean Elizabeth; 4 grandchildren; his nieces and nephews; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings, James M., Jr., Mary Elizabeth, Alfred Rhody, Josephine Batilda, Harold Gentry, Bernard Nivard, and John Herbert. Arrangements were handled by Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary.
